In this production of Spring Awakening, our team of 30+ student artists delved into the source material with the values of best intimacy practices, the will of young people, and the power of actor-musicianship as our guiding lights. What arose was a long-term process that included intimacy workshops and days-of-play, dramaturgical workshops and meetings with Northwestern faculty in literature and German studies departments, and, of course, “jam seshes” that fostered the punk-rock nature of our band/ensemble. Spring Awakening was performed in May 2022 in Northwestern’s Shanley Pavilion to sold-out audiences as one of the most well-attended productions of the academic year.
